The SAP Team at the North Intermediate School offers the following support groups, as needed, throughout the school year:

Banana Splits

This support group provides a safe and confidential setting for students to support one another in the difficulties they face while adjusting to their parents' divorce/separation. The group activities and discussions will focus on helping children feel more comfortable in expressing their feelings and coping with them.

Friendship/Social Skills

This support group strives to help students improve their self-esteem and develop positive peer relationships. Goals include identifying personal strengths and interests, increasing self-confidence, and helping students learn appropriate ways to resolve conflicts.

Stress Busters

This support group seeks to help students develop better coping skills to deal with everyday stress. Some of the group's goals include improving social interaction, developing better self-control, and encouraging appropriate responses to stressful situations.

Sunshine Club (Grief Group)

This group assists those who are grieving the loss of a loved one. The group provides a warm and supportive atmosphere where they can share their feelings of anger or loss that they may experience during the healing. process.

Anger Management

This group is designed for students who have difficulty expressing their feelings in an appropriate way. The activities focus on teaching students to recognize signs of anger and help them develop healthy coping strategies.

Children of War (COW)

This is a group that focuses on the feelings associated with having a loved one serving in our country's military. Students will have the opportunity to share stories, draw pictures, and send letters to loved ones. Through the process, students gain support from one another as they are experiencing similar difficulties.

Healthy Persons/Healthy Choices

This is a group designed for students who may have a difficult home life. The group will attempt to serve as an outlet for discussion and provide coping strategies for situations that may be beyond their control. Students are encouraged to focus on positive aspects of their lives as well as situations they DO have control over (friendships, schoolwork, etc.).
