South School students celebrate the Governor's Breakfast Challenge at Lincoln Financial Field

Students from South School recently traveled to Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia to participate in the Governor’s School Breakfast Challenge, an honor earned after South School was named the challenge winner for the third consecutive year.

During the event, students had the opportunity to hear from educational and agricultural leaders, including Dr. Carrie Rowe, Pennsylvania Secretary of Education, and Heidi Secord, Deputy Secretary of Farm, Food, and Market Access. Their presentations highlighted the importance of nutritious school meals and the connection between Pennsylvania agriculture and student wellness.

Students also took part in interactive activities, including sampling and voting on potential school lunch menu items. This unique experience allowed students to share their perspectives on school meals while learning more about nutrition, healthy food choices, and the role of local agriculture in supporting schools.

The day concluded with an exciting behind-the-scenes tour of the Philadelphia Eagles’ locker room and playing field, giving students a memorable opportunity to explore one of Pennsylvania’s most iconic sports venues.

Thank you to our South Elementary Students, Principal Delia Peppiatt, and Food Services Director Heather Fedoryk for representing the district and contributing their voices to conversations about school nutrition and student wellness.
