The South Elementary School Learning Garden continues to grow, and so does its impact on our school and community!

Last year, South Elementary students in grades 3-5 started seeds, prepared garden beds, and planted crops as part of Mr. Soskil's science classes. Now in fifth grade, many of those same students have had the opportunity to see the fruits (and vegetables!) of their labor as the garden continues to flourish.

This summer, the project expanded through a remarkable partnership between the Newfoundland Rotary and Wallenpaupack's High School Building & Trades Program. Building & Trades students constructed a produce cart, while Rotary members helped stock it with fresh produce from the Learning Garden, making healthy food available to community members.

The community quickly embraced the idea. Local gardeners began contributing surplus produce, adding even more variety to the cart's offerings. Families stopped by to pick up fresh fruits and vegetables at no cost, creating a wonderful example of neighbors helping neighbors.

The Learning Garden has become much more than a classroom project. It is a testament to what can be accomplished when students, educators, community organizations, and local residents work together toward a common goal.

Thank you to Mr. Soskil's science students, the Newfoundland Rotary, our High School Building & Trades Program, and the many local gardeners and families who have helped make the Learning Garden a true community effort!
