Wallenpaupack Area School District is proud to announce that four of it's schools have been recognized among the top ten in the state for their participation in the Governor's School Breakfast Challenge!

The challenge aims to expand participation in the Universal Free Breakfast Program while promoting healthy meal options for students.

Students and faculty from WASD will be traveling to Lincoln Financial Field to accept this award. While there, they will hear remarks from state officials, enjoy a gourmet breakfast prepared by chefs from the Philadelphia Eagles organization, meet Eagles players, and explore the stadium with a behind the scenes tour.

Join WASD in congratulating Heather Fedoryk, our Director of Food Services, and her tireless staff for their effort to prepare and promote FREE Breakfast and Lunch offerings for all children in our community!

Wallenpaupack Area School District is in the TOP 10 Once Again!

Wallenpaupack Area School District is proud to announce that four of its five schools have been recognized among the top 10 in the state for their participation in the Governor’s School Breakfast Challenge. This achievement reflects the district’s strong commitment to ensuring that every student begins the day with a healthy meal, supporting both academic success and overall well-being. Out of hundreds of schools across the Commonwealth, only 60 successfully completed the Governor’s School Breakfast Challenge, and four of the top 10 are from Wallenpaupack Area School District.

About the Governor’s School Breakfast Challenge
The Governor’s School Breakfast Challenge is a statewide initiative led by the Pennsylvania Department of Education to expand participation in the Universal Free Breakfast Program and promote healthier meal options for students. Participating schools implement strategies such as:

·       Introducing alternative breakfast models like “Grab-and-Go” or “Breakfast in the Classroom” to make meals more accessible.

·       Offering locally sourced food items weekly.

·       Serving hot or entrée breakfast options multiple times per week.

·       Reducing high-sugar items.

·       Promoting school breakfast through family and community outreach.

Schools that successfully meet the Challenge’s criteria receive statewide recognition for their efforts to improve student health and learning outcomes. To honor this achievement, the champions of our breakfast program-administration, faculty, staff, and students, have been invited to celebrate at Lincoln Financial Field this September! There will be remarks from state officials, networking with fellow “Breakfast Champions”, a gourmet breakfast prepared by Eagles stadium chefs, sampling winning breakfast recipes from the challenge, snap photos with an Eagles player, cheerleaders and Swoop, and take a behind the scenes stadium tour.

Statewide Impact
Across Pennsylvania, schools have embraced this initiative with strong results. During the 2024–2025 school year, more than 91 million breakfasts were served to students statewide, an increase of nearly 10 million meals from the previous year.  Wallenpaupack Area School District served nearly 300,000 breakfasts last school year. That is over 43,000 more meals than the 2023-2024 school year.

District Recognition
Wallenpaupack’s recognition reflects the dedication of administrators, food service professionals, teachers, and families working together to ensure that students have the nutrition they need to succeed. Four schools in the district demonstrated excellence in expanding participation, improving menu offerings, and creating greater awareness of the importance of school breakfast.  Our hat is off to the following:
