WASD School Board Recognizes three outstanding seniors

The Wallenpaupack Area School Board recently recognized three exceptional seniors whose accomplishments have left a lasting mark on the school community. During the Student Recognition program, Madelyn Carter, Nora Warner, and Rosa SanClementi shared stories of the experiences that shaped their high school journeys and expressed appreciation for the educators, coaches, mentors, and family members who helped them along the way.

While each student's path was unique, a common message emerged throughout the evening: success is not achieved alone. Through leadership opportunities, athletic competition, artistic expression, and academic exploration, these students reflected on the people who encouraged them to grow, challenged them to pursue excellence, and helped them discover their passions.

Madelyn Carter, daughter of Cecilia and Donald Carter, reflected on a high school experience defined by leadership, involvement, and perseverance. As a two-year Class President, Student Council leader, Culinary CTE student, and six-year member of the girls wrestling program, Madelyn embraced opportunities to serve her school and community while developing confidence as both a student and athlete. She spoke about the tremendous growth of girls wrestling at Wallenpaupack and expressed special gratitude to Mrs. Ann Marie Simons, whose vision and advocacy helped transform the program from a small group of athletes into a thriving opportunity for students across the district.

Madelyn also recognized Mr. Travis Ey, Mr. Brett Buselli, and Dr. Amanda Schmalzle for helping her grow as a student leader, Chef PJ Lemoncelli for making the Culinary CTE Program a rewarding and memorable experience, and Coach Stephen Peters for mentoring her throughout her wrestling career. Most importantly, she offered heartfelt thanks to her mother, Cecilia Carter, whose unwavering support, countless early mornings, and constant encouragement helped make her achievements possible. Through these experiences, Madelyn said she learned that leadership is built through teamwork, support, and the willingness of others to invest in your success.

Nora Warner, daughter of Eric and Kelley Warner, shared how her lifelong love of learning and music was nurtured by teachers, family members, and mentors who inspired her at every stage of her education. An accomplished musician, student leader, and scholar, Nora has been involved in band, choir, theater, National Honor Society, Student Ambassadors, and numerous leadership roles while earning recognition at the district, regional, and state levels. During her remarks, she reflected on the educators who helped cultivate her curiosity and passion for learning, including her mother, Kelley Warner, and teachers Mrs. Caroline Romano, Mrs. Heather Hess, and Mrs. Kim Cavage, who encouraged her love of reading from an early age. She also recognized Mrs. Argyro Paspalas and Mrs. Colleen Connors for challenging her to embrace new opportunities and continue growing both academically and personally.

Nora spoke about the impact of experiences beyond the classroom and thanked Mrs. Patti Frey and Mrs. Mary Gilson for supporting the many activities and opportunities that enriched her education. Most meaningful, however, was her experience in the performing arts. She credited Mrs. Alison Hoffmann and Mrs. Alexsis Neenan with creating an environment where students could develop confidence, leadership, and lifelong friendships through music. She also expressed gratitude to her father, Eric Warner, whose example as an educator and music director inspired her goal of pursuing a career in Music Education so she can help future students discover the same sense of belonging and purpose she found through the arts.

Rosa SanClementi, daughter of Erin and Charles SanClementi, reflected on how Wallenpaupack's close-knit community and diverse opportunities helped shape her interests, ambitions, and appreciation for lifelong learning. A standout student in the Engineering CTE Program, accomplished wrestler, and active participant in numerous academic organizations, Rosa spoke about the value of being part of a school community that encouraged exploration across many different disciplines. She described girls wrestling as one of the most influential experiences of her high school career, teaching her resilience, perseverance, and the importance of learning from challenges.

Rosa expressed appreciation for Coach Stephen Peters, Coach Tom Hirschler, Coach Elana Carroll, and her teammates for creating a supportive environment that helped her grow both on and off the mat. She also shared how her passion for engineering began years before high school after early experiences with Dr. Katie Schkolenko, and how that interest was further developed through the guidance of Mr. David Heckman in the Engineering CTE Program. Rosa went on to recognize several educators who broadened her perspective and helped her discover strengths in a variety of subjects, including Mr. Tim Granquist, Mr. Trent Bryden, Mr. Stephen Krushnowski, Mrs. Harmony Horvath, Mr. Michael Lukan, and Mrs. Lisa Peet. Through their support, she said, she learned that education is about more than preparing for a future career. It is about becoming a thoughtful, creative, and engaged member of the community.

The Wallenpaupack Area School Board extends its sincere congratulations to Madelyn, Nora, and Rosa on this well-deserved recognition. Their accomplishments reflect the dedication, character, and commitment to excellence that define Wallenpaupack students. Just as importantly, their presentations served as a powerful reminder of the lasting impact that teachers, coaches, mentors, and families have on the lives of young people. We thank these outstanding members of our Buckhorns family for sharing their stories and wish them continued success as they pursue their goals and begin the next chapter of their educational journeys.
