Job Shadow at Highland Veterinary Clinic

Two Wallenpaupack Area High School seniors had the opportunity to explore careers in veterinary medicine during a job‑shadowing experience on January 14 at the Highland Veterinary Clinic in Honesdale. Seniors Gabrielle Hieber and Anthony Lin spent the day learning alongside Dr. Heather Dein, gaining firsthand insight into the daily work of a veterinarian.

During their visit, the students observed a surgical procedure on a dog as well as a dental assessment and treatment on another patient. Both Gabrielle and Anthony expressed how valuable it was to see real veterinary care in action.

Gabrielle shared that she “liked the environment of the clinic and getting to experience watching a surgery.”
Anthony appreciated Dr. Dein’s willingness to teach, noting, “I enjoyed watching the surgery because Dr. Dein would explain everything she was doing and what she was using, and it helped me understand why she would do these things.”

Both students have expressed interest in pursuing careers in the veterinary field, and this shadowing opportunity helped strengthen their enthusiasm and understanding of what the profession entails.

The Wallenpaupack Area High School community extends its gratitude to Dr. Heather Dein and the staff at Highland Veterinary Clinic for supporting our students’ career exploration.
