Allied Health Students learn self-defense skills for the healthcare workplace

On March 26, 2026, Allied Health Level 3 students participated in a specialized self‑defense training focused on safety in healthcare environments. The session was led by Tiger Karate’s Head Instructor, Sabom Nim Aaron J. Turner, who shared practical strategies tailored to the unique challenges faced by healthcare professionals.

During the training, students learned the importance of situational awareness and personal safety while working in a variety of healthcare settings. Instruction emphasized recognizing potential risks, maintaining awareness of surroundings, and responding appropriately to tense or unpredictable situations that may arise during patient care.

In addition to physical safety concepts, Mr. Turner introduced students to the idea of energy awareness during caregiver‑patient interactions. Students learned how understanding and managing energy can help de‑escalate situations, improve communication, and create a safer, more positive experience for both patients and healthcare workers.

This interactive session provided valuable real‑world skills that students can carry into their future healthcare careers, reinforcing the importance of safety, professionalism, and compassionate care in all patient interactions.
