1:1 iPad Program
Documents & Resources
Wallenpaupack made the decision to implement a 1:1 program during the 2020 school closure as a way to provide students with a measure of normalcy. The collective effort of our staff to reach students during this time was nothing short of amazing.
With a return in-person learning, our staff is now tasked with utilization of new tools in a more familiar environment. We recognize that 21st Century Students have incredible access to information, and this fact results in a reconstructed educational landscape. Through practice, trial, and error, we have learned that:
- Providing technology helps reduce a "digital divide" of opportunity, resulting in a more equitable educational experience for students.
- Innovative tools can access transformational levels of student learning, placing evidence of inquiry and critical thinking at the forefront of how we measure student growth.
- Technology can be leveraged to provide accommodations that allow for greater differentiation of instruction, and a more individualized educational experience.
- A technology-infused educational experience provides students with the opportunity to learn and practice the Digital Citizenship skills that are essential for independence in a digitally connected society.
Parents! You Can Control iPad Content!
What Safety Features are Installed on WASD-Owned iPads?
While no system is completely fool-proof, WASD has taken steps to provide a safe and secure environment for students to digitally engage with educational content and tools.
Cloud-based Content Filtering:
All student-issued iPads are enrolled in our cloud-based filtering system. This system acts as a content filter for devices, blocking illicit content whether the device is on or off campus.
Apple & Jamf Classroom:
All instructors have access to these digital classroom management tools, which allows for direct control and supervision over the devices during scheduled instructional time in the classroom environment.
Jamf Parent:
As described in the video linked on this page, this tool allows parents to directly control all applications and content on the iPad outside of regular school hours. This provides parents with complete jurisdiction over how the device is utilized during these times.
App Distribution and Self-Service Center:
Applications used by WASD students must adhere to CIPA and FERPA standards for the appropriate age groups. WASD maintains a curated self-service app store of approved applications that meet these standards.
Coming soon - End-Point Detection Response:
As an added measure to protect against malware, phishing, and more, WASD is in the process of implementing additional tools intended to further protect users of school owned iPads.
