Keep your children home if their temperature is 100 degrees or higher, especially if they have other symptoms. A child should be fever free for 24 hours without medication before returning to school. If your child wakes up with a low-grade temp (<100) and has other symptoms, you may choose to keep the student home. If there are no other symptoms and you send the student to school, please call the school nurse so she can monitor your student and if the temperature should elevate, your school nurse will contact you to pick up the student.

Children should be free of vomiting for a period of 24hrs before returning to school.

Keep a child home if they have had three or more watery stools in a 24hr period, especially if the child acts or looks ill.

If there is no vomiting, diarrhea, or fever associated with a stomachache, it is best to send the student to school and make the school nurse aware so she can monitor the student.

If there is no other symptoms or fever, it is best to medicate the student for the headache prior to coming to school and make the school nurse aware so she can monitor.

If the sore throat is accompanied with an elevated temperature or painful neck glands, the student should stay home. If no temperature, the student may attend school and it is best to alert the school nurse so she can monitor.

If the student has a frequent, productive cough, especially if accompanied with an elevated temperature, the student should stay home until the cough is less frequent, no longer producing phlegm, and/or the elevated temperature is gone. Cough drops are considered a medication and a parent consent and supply of cough drops must be brought to school if they are to be used by the student.

If the student's eyes are red, swollen, itchy, painful, and especially if there is thick pus draining from the eye or causing crust, the student should be seen by an MD and may return to school after 24hrs of medical treatment.

Rashes can be a sign of a contagious condition or illness and students should be kept home if there are any accompanying symptoms such as fever or drainage until cleared by an MD.
