SAT

The SAT Reasoning Test assesses how well you analyze and solve problems - skills you learned in school that you'll need in college.  The SAT includes a critical reading, mathematics, and writing section, with a specific number of questions related to content.  Each section of the SAT is scored on a scale of 200-800, with two writing subscores for multiple-choice and the essay.

Subject Tests (formerly SAT II: Subject Tests) are designed to measure your knowledge and skills in particular subject areas, as well as your ability to apply that knowledge.  Many colleges use the Subject Tests for admission, for course placement, and to advise students about course selection.  Some college specify the Subject Tests they require for admission or placement;  others allow applicants to choose which tests to take.  Check with your college to determine if these tests are required.

PSAT / NMSQT

Attention!

Click HERE for step-by-step instructions to score your 9th grade PSAT practice test.

The PSAT/NMSQT stands for Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.  It is a standardized test that provides firsthand practice for the SAT Reasoning Test.  It also gives you a chance to enter National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) scholarship programs.  The PSAT/NMSQT measures critical reading skills, math problem-solving skills, and writing skills.  The most common reasons for taking the PSAT/NMSQT are:

  • to receive feedback on your strengths and weaknesses on skills necessary for college study
  • to see how your performance on an admissions test might compare with that of others applying to college
  • to enter the competition for scholarships from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation

The PSAT date at WAHS will be Thursday, October 5th, 2023.

Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB)

The ASVAB will be given at WAHS on a date to be determined, with no obligation to the US Armed Services. Sign up in the Guidance Office. For more information, including registration, see your Guidance Counselor.

Keystone Exams

In July 2012, the State Board adopted PA Common Core Standards in English Language Arts, Mathematics, and Reading and Writing in History, Social Studies and Technical Subjects. These new standards mirror the rigor of the Common Core, but also retain the PA Academic Standards. These standards can be found at PDE's website: http://pdesas.org.

The Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) has initiated a state assessment transition plan in order to address the curriculum changes required by the adoption of the PA Common Core Standards. The PSSA's will no longer be given to Grade 11. For more information, please refer to this document.
