POWER MECHANICS
EXPLORING POWER MECHANICS AND BUILDING CONSTRUCTION - .5 credit
Grade 9
This elective course is designed to let the student explore and experience the Power Mechanics and Building Construction vocational programs. In order for a student to be admitted into either vocational program, he/she must take this elective course.
POWER MECHANICS I & II

This course provides instruction in service, maintenance, tune-up, and major overhaul of automotive engines. It also includes small engine repair on such portable power equipment as lawn and garden machinery, chain saws, outboard and inboard engines, and motorcycles. A brief introduction to oxy-acetylene, arc, and mig welding is covered. Further emphasis is placed on automotive brake systems, suspension, and alignment. The two-year course is designed for the student seeking future employment in the repair of gasoline combustion engines and automotive repair.
ADVANCED VEHICLE MAINTENANCE - 1 credit
Grade 12
This course is designed to further emphasize vehicle repair procedures. Students will advance through computerized engine controls and take the Pennsylvania State Inspection program and based on performance, certifies the students to perform vehicle state inspections.
VEHICLE MAINTENANCE AND MINOR REPAIR - 1 credit
Grades 10,11, 12
This course provides instruction in maintenance and minor repair of automobiles both old and new. Emphasis will be placed on the following jobs: automobile safety, tools, vehicle maintenance procedures, tire and wheel service, tune-ups, minor testing of vehicle systems and minor repairs.
SMALL ENGINE TECHNOLOGY - 1 credit
Grades 10,11,12
This course is designed for students who are interested in the operation, construction, overhaul, and diagnosis of small air-cooled gas engines. Emphasis will be placed on: safety, tools, theory of 2 and 4 stroke engines, trouble shooting, overhaul, and related equipment. Students may use their own small engines to perform the class responsibilities.
CAPSTONE WORK EXPERIENCE (Power Mechanics) - 2 credits
Grade 12
Required: Successful completion of Level I & Level II Power Mechanics and instructor approval
A minimum of 15 hours of related work experience per week is required. Students taking this course can expect to advance their skills in the automotive industry.
