| The Wallenpaupack Area Drug and Task Force is an action and advisory group working to implement a comprehensive school and community approach to help our teenagers stay safe from drugs and alcohol. Formed in November of 2004, we are a new, yet growing organization.
The Task Force includes the school district, law enforcement, community leaders and parents. The program was meant to raise awareness of the problem among community leaders so they can begin to work with the district to explore possible solutions. Our work involves:
Our interests include drug and alcohol education programs for teens, peer counseling and support programs, parent education and support programs, and more effective enforcement strategies. The Task Force is currently working on a campaign for the 2007-2008 school year. The Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) organization has tentatively planned a series of events that encourage students to live healthy life styles by engaging in positive decision making. Information will be forthcoming about school and community events. In addition, the Task Force has evolved and will be taking a new direction this year. Parents, teachers and community members will work together to form an advisory committee to review programs focusing on keeping our children drug and alcohol free. This advisory committee will ensure that all stakeholders are represented as we seek to find effective, research based measures to implement in our schools.
