Student Assistance Program (SAP)


From the referral process to interventions, the Guidance Department takes an active role in the Student Assistance Program at the North Intermediate School.

What is the function of the SAP Team at the Wallenpaupack North Intermediate School?
SAP is a group of teachers and other staff members who discuss a student’s academic and/or behavioral difficulties to devise interventions to address these particular needs.

Who is eligible for SAP?
Any student in grades 3, 4, or 5 who is experiencing academic and/or behavioral difficulties is eligible for SAP assistance.

How does the student benefit from SAP?
The student receives the academic and/or behavioral assistance necessary to address his/her educational needs under the direction of trained counselors and teachers.

What is the role of the parent in SAP?
The parent is notified by telephone or letter of the student’s referral to SAP. Parents may also be directly involved in implementing the interventions agreed upon by the team. As always, parental support is a vital component affecting the outcome of the strategies being used.
