School Calendar Amended

At their March 12th meeting, the Wallenpaupack Area School Board voted to amend the 2017‑2018 school calendar to help make up days lost due to weather conditions. The following change has been approved:

  • Thursday, June 14, 2018 - Full day of school for students and staff

8th Annual Fine Arts Gala and Film Festival Held

The 8th Annual Fine Arts Gala and Film Festival was held recently at Wallenpaupack High school with each area of the fine arts showcased. Along with individual senior awards in achievement in drama, music, and art, student video productions were awarded for Best Writer, Editor, and Director on independent video productions. Students, parents, and guests also enjoyed a wonderful display of original artwork from all of the fine art classes that Wallenpaupack offers. This film trailer was part of the videos played to highlight our diverse art programs.

Senator Lisa Baker Meets with WAHS Student Ambassadors

On May 8, 2018, Senator Lisa Baker visited the Wallenpaupack Area High School to talk with students about her experiences, public service, and servant leadership, which have impacted her life as a Pennsylvania State Senator. Additionally, she asked the high school students about who they are and the District's Student Ambassador Program. We are grateful to Senator Baker for her continued support of our students and the community.

WAHS Physics Team Wins First at the Hayes Family Physics Competition

On Tuesday, April 10th, a team of WAHS physics students traveled to the University of Scranton and bested 26 other teams from 14 different schools to take home the overall first place trophy in the Hayes Family Physics Competition. The team competed in 5 different events that tested their knowledge in all aspects of physics and engineering and came in first in 3 of the events, propelling them to first overall. Their 2nd place finish in the last event earned them the right to dunk their adviser in a dunk tank!

In addition, Aidan Cunningham placed first in the individual testing event, besting over 150 other students, and Charles Brinsfield placed 3rd overall, earning them a chance to play a game of Physics Jeopardy. Aidan won the game and won the first place prize. Charles earned the third place prize.

Just its third year in the competition, Wallenpaupack finished 2nd last year and also had the Jeopardy winner.

WAHS Student Ambassadors Assist at Relay for Life Survivor Dinner

On Saturday, May 19, 2018, the Wallenpaupack Area High School Student Ambassadors assisted in welcoming and escorting those attending the Relay for Life Survivor Dinner at the Wallenpaupack Area High School. The students were pleased to be able to help in some way and be a part of this community event.

Seniors Honored at May School Board Meeting

The Wallenpaupack School Board highlighted its May meeting by recognizing three outstanding seniors.

Olivia Bongiovi is a Gold and Silver Award winning member of the National Honor Society, and has served as a member of its Executive Council. She has also been a member of the Art Club, the WAHS Players, Students Against Destructive Descisions (SADD), the Guidance Advisory Council, the Athletic Council, the Prom Committee, the Band, and the Chorus. She served as Captain of the Cheerleading team, earning her athletic letter and competing for the District Title, the State Championships, and the Nationals. Olivia plans to major in Biology with a Marine concentration and minor in Physics, with plans to attend medical school in the future.

Maria Drake is also a Gold and Silver Award winning member of the National Honor Society, and has participated in Band, Chorus, Marching Band, the WAHS Players, the Local History Club, and the Forensics team. She earned her letter in Tennis, and competed on the Track & Field team. She also served as a Student Ambassador, and a Special Olympics Skiing Instructor. After graduation, Maria plans to major in Biology with a certification in Secondary Education.

Paige Ramkissoon has served on the Executive Council of the National Honor Society, and is also a Gold and Silver Award winner. She earned First Chair as a member of the District Band, and has also played in the Marching Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, and District Orchestra. She has been a member of the Chorus, the Friends of Rachel Club, the Local History Club, and the WAHS Players. Paige plans to major in Biology and Music with hopes of going to medical school, as well as being a member of an organization such as the Peace Corps.

The School Board, Administration, Faculty, and Staff of Wallenpaupack congratulate these seniors on their accomplishments and wish them continued success in the future.

Richard Nadolski Named March Fine Art Student of the Month

Richard Nadolski of Hawley has been named the Wallenpaupack Fine Art Student of the Month for March.

Richard is working in the Fine Art discipline of Music: vocal and instrumental. His activities include Concert Choir, Chamber Choir, Show Choir, Jazz Band, Marching Band, and Wind Ensemble. He is also an active member of the WAHS Players, and has participated in District and Regional Chorus.

Richard has earned the following awards and recognition:

  • Marywood Wind Celebration three years in a row
  • WAHS Section Leader two years in a row

Richard plans on furthering his education at the New Jersey Institute of Technology to major in Civil Engineering. He intends to start at choir at NJIT, as well as continue doing theater at college and in the community.

2018 ARC 5k Color Run / Walk Event

This year, WASD is hosting the 4th Annual Color Run / Walk event to raise money for the Dyberry Day Camp.

The Color Run is a fun, noncompetitive, event where runners will be doused in colored powder at stations throughout the race. Following the race, participants will enjoy DJ ZIP T with Black Ops Sound and Lighting, free food, selfie station, a vendor fair, and more!!!!!!!!

New Vaccination Requirements for 2017-2018 School Year

In the 2017-2018 school year, there are new requirements that students in 7th and 12th grade must adhere to. On the First Day of School in the fall of 2017, unless the child has a medical or religious/philosophical exemption, a child must have had the vaccinations as described in this pamphlet, or risk exclusion from school. Students at any grade, Kindergarten through 12th, including all public, private, parochial or nonpublic school in this Commonwealth of Pennsylvania must show proof of immunization before they can attend school. This pertains to vocational schools, alternative education programs, intermediate units, special education, home education programs, charter and cyber charter schools. Notice Regarding Student Insurance - Updated for 2017-2018!

Please be advised that it is the responsibility of the parents/guardians, in the event of a student accident, to provide for accidental injury expenses either through insurance or cash payment to health care providers. For this reason, the School District would like to make you aware of the availability of a low cost, standard school approved insurance policy.

The School District does not provide insurance coverage for students. If you do not have insurance or the financial ability to cover potential injury expenses, we encourage you to review this Student Accident Insurance document.

If you choose to purchase insurance through this program, please have your child return the completed insurance form with your payment to their school and it will be forwarded to the insurance company to process.

We hope this program can be a valuable service for you and your family.
